When I first came up with the idea for this painting I thought of all the times I had driven through the wine country and observed the harvesting of grapes and crops. I witnessed the striking care and thoughfulness that is taken with these emerging fields. And I imagined all of the grapes, vegetables, flowers and trees rising from the earth and being transformed into a magnificent painting of colors and shapes.
The curvy feminine shape of the land that lies between the road and the river is symbolic of Mother Earth and how she nurtures her soil. The squared crop fields within that shape are symbolic of the hard working earthy, masculine energies. And the overall placement of the plants, trees, people, animals and vinyards represents a utopian harmony and structure between all living things. Also, playing on the idea of vintage , I added the vintage of vineyards and a vintage 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO. 30"x 40" oil painting on canvas.
