THE CARING

I was inspired to draw this interpretation of Mother Nature after a trip to the wine country. As I walked down a path near a vineyard I gazed up and thought about how great it would be to draw the nurturing face of nature hugging a tree. I wanted the drawing to be symbolic of how much trees are loved and nourished by nature.

As I started to draw I was reminded of how many things I had in my life that came from nature. It came down to EVERYTHING! So I knew that nature had to appear very large in the drawing. After all, I thought, nature was everything from as small as an atom to as large as the earth.

And so, along with my idea of the vineyards and leaning against a tree, I added some unexpected elements of nature to my drawing. The gravel of a paved path, the concrete of a distant city and the metal of a distant plane were added to the drawing to remind me that all of their components are part of nature too. I am forever indebted to nature and created this drawing as my tribute to my idea of what nature represents.

16"x 20" pastel drawing on duralene.
Durelene is a very smooth paper.
