This painting is a departure from my established painting style. It's a "preliminary oil sketch" that I quickly wanted to get down on canvas. I liked what it had to offer so kept it as is without going any further and then added it to my collection of paintings.
Edgar Allan Poe's poem, "The Raven", was the inspiration. I thought of the talking raven rapping on a chamber door and repeating the word "nevermore" several times. I wanted to offset Poe's poem with bold colors thereby transforming the original despondent narrative into a lively and vibrant outcome....giving it more of a rock opera experience.
18"x 24" oil painting on canvas.
